5 Benefits of Protective Styles + Tutorial

August 3, 2017

This summer for me has been all about keeping my hair up as much as possible. Because, the heat! Somebody has to feel me out there! Protective styles such as braids, buns, faux locs, and updos are a great way for natural hair to just chill. Check out 5 benefits of protective styles below:

1. Your hair can grow. Putting in braids or braided styles (with the proper care) can be healthy, because your own hair can do its thing. This can often lead to wonderful amounts of growth. Hooray for that!

2. Your edges can get love. Over the last few months, I have been able to put some love and time into maintaining my edges. I often massage them with oils such as Jane Carter Solution Scalp Nourishing Serum to help with any breakage and to keep this area moisturized.

3. Easy maintenance can give you a break. We all know how much work goes into maintaining our curls or fro. Thank goodness for protective styles to help us go longer periods of time without having to do much to our hair.

4. Avoid the environmental elements. Let me tell you, the heat and humidity played no games this summer. I have loved being able to avoid the worries of humidity toward my curls by simply braiding my hair up and going about my business.

5. The take-down is sweet. I don't know about you, but each time I have taken down my hair from a style this summer, I have been amazed at its progress. I also gain a sense of appreciation for wearing my big, huge fro! :)

I made a tutorial of my fave protective style this summer. Check out the jumbo goddess braid:

Used: 1 pack of braiding hair (beauty supply store), spray bottle water, African Pride Bouncy Curls Pudding, Ecostyler Olive Oil Gel, bobby pins, and artificial flowers (optional).

So that wraps it up about protective styles for now. What are some more benefits? Do you have any favorite styles? Hit me up on Facebook or Instagram! Also, be sure to Subscribe To My YouTube Channel. Thanks for reading! With love, S
