As naturalistas, there are so many ways to add definition to our curls and coils. Straw sets, twist sets, rod sets, and roller sets are just a few examples. I really like roller sets because they help to seal in the moisture for my hair. For me, the curls often last up to a week and a half. I use the small magnetic rollers with the holes. See them here. They are easy to manage and produce shiny spiral curls. I also use an afro pick, water or leave-in conditioner spray, hair butter, foaming mousse, and bobby pins. Here are my steps below:
1. Fro it out. On dry hair, use an afro pick to comb out hair.
2. Section hair. Starting at the front, take a very small section of hair and add water or leave-in conditioner spray.
3. Detangle. After adding water or leave-in conditioner, run fingers through section of hair paying special attention to any tangles or knots.
4. Add the good stuff. Add a small dab of hair butter and a generous amount of mousse from root to tip.
5. Roll it up. Wrap the ends of hair around the roller, and roll hair up to the root. Then fasten with a bobby pin.
6. Repeat and cover. Continue this process throughout each small section of hair. Once complete, put on a silk scarf or bonnet and let sit overnight.
7. Flourish. Starting anywhere, take out bobby pins and pull out curls. Style as preferred.
